With the warmer weather finally here, it's time to roll up your sleeves and dive into the garden with your little ones!
Living in the northeast, we've passed our last frost date, signaling that it's safe to plant most seeds and seedlings. So many of our favorite garden gems are incredibly easy to grow right from seed, and it's never too late to get started!
In our own garden, we grow a combination of veggies, fruits, and flowers. Zinnias and cosmos are an absolute must if you want to grow flowers from seeds. They require nothing more than a little water and add beautiful color to your garden. Plus, they make the best cutting flowers. My girls and I love picking bouquets to deliver to friends!
We also grow tons of veggies, and most of them provide lots of food with very little work. If you're a beginner, green beans, cucumbers, and kale are incredibly forgiving. These hearty plants sprout easily from seeds, and your kids will love watching them grow!
If you're looking for something a bit sweeter (and less green), cherry tomatoes are another must! You'll need to buy plant starts at this time, but they're readily available at garden centers. Our family loves Sungolds for a sweet snack! You'll also find lots of strawberry plants this time of year, which are another wonderful sweet treat to grow in the garden. Just be warned, bunnies and other critters will also LOVE your strawberries. Keep your harvest for yourself by growing them in pots, up off the ground.
Happy gardening!
