April is Autism Awareness Month—a time to celebrate neurodiversity and learn how we can be more inclusive. Myrishia McGarity, a photographer and longtime supporter of Clover Baby & Kids, shares her story about raising her son, Jonah, who is on the autism spectrum.
Finding Strength in Motherhood
“One of the first things I did when I found out about Jonah’s Autism diagnosis was head to social media. If there is one thing I have learned in my 9 years of motherhood, it’s that there is power behind moms who have been there and done that.”
When doctors gave Myrishia Jonah’s diagnosis, they also gave her numbers—statistics, probabilities, and long lists of things to prepare for. But what they couldn’t give her was the comfort that only other moms could provide: Hope.
She found community, strength, and guidance in the stories of others. And now, she shares hers so someone else might feel a little less alone.
Shifting Perspectives
“Having a child on the spectrum opens your eyes to a way of viewing the world that you never imagined.”
Autism doesn’t come with a roadmap. But it does invite you to see the beauty in a different rhythm of life. Myrishia reflects on the moments when fear crept in—but also the immense pride in Jonah’s resilience.
“Your senses become heightened because you are their first shield of protection… I’ve been scared of what the future holds, but I’m so grateful for the community that reminds me how strong he is.”
How You Can Support the Autism Community
In honor of Autism Awareness Month—and every month after—Myrishia and Clover encourage you to take small but meaningful steps toward understanding and inclusion:
-
💙 Learn about autism through personal stories, educational resources, and listening with empathy.
-
💙 Include children who may communicate, play, or interact differently. Small acts of kindness go a long way.
-
💙 Support families in your community. Sometimes a simple, “You’re doing an amazing job,” means the world.
-
💙 Celebrate neurodiversity. Every child deserves to be seen, heard, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
A Note from Clover Baby & Kids
We’re proud to amplify voices like Myrishia’s and stand alongside families raising children of all abilities. Jonah has been part of the Clover family from the beginning, and we’re honored to continue sharing moments of real motherhood—filled with strength, love, and the kind of magic that only comes from embracing who we are.
